Day 276: some beans

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Reminding me of Edmund Blackadder’s abortive attempt to introduce his manservant to the laws of arithmetic (“to you, Baldrick, the Renaissance was just something that happened to other people, wasn’t it?”), the remaining borlotti will be sufficient for little more than a particularly diminutive casserole. It’s not been a vintage crop (snails are being blamed) and no doubt I’ll soon be clearing this bed, but for now I’m happy to have been left a pair of bright cerise and cream marbled pods for company; quite possibly the most ostentateous garb to be seen in the veg patch all the livelong year. Always excepting that worn by the gardener, naturally.
