Day 329: Malus ‘Adirondack’

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Named for the mountain range, rather than the garden furniture style icons, Malus halliana ‘Adirondack’ has a reputation for being one of the most floriferous crabapple varieties you could invite into your garden and, since crabapples aren’t shy with their blossom, that’s some recommendation. The fruits are small and not unlike small cherries, coral-pink blushing red and, if you’ve not stripped them all for jelly, persisting into winter for the birds. Quite the looker – I’m wondering where I can fit one in.
