Day 107: dandelion time

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

Time is a tricksy character. We measure it in all situations by the appearance of regular markers and, in the garden, we use plants; the first snowdrop, the first blossom. Just now we’re all celebrating the first of the tulips. I wonder how many of us are celebrating the arrival of the first dandelion clock of the year, and admit that the sight of its whiskery little head has brought with it a lightness and joy that’s felt in short supply these past few months. No, I didn’t pick it to blow the seeds away into the air on their parachutes; I’m as bad at picking dandelions as I am at picking tulips and dahlias. Must try harder, and grow more of everything – including dandelions.
