Paying no heed to the grey skies, the flowerbeds are putting on a show. Given the choice, when it comes to taking photographs in the garden, I’d always opt for an overcast day over one with bright sunshine and, while a little sparkle wouldn’t be amiss around now, many of the deeper colours seem to draw in the available light and concentrate it so that their rich tones appear all the more opulent. Throw in a few raindrops – as here on the campanula petals – and you’ve a kaleidoscopic treasure chest romping away in the borders; roses, ox-eye daisies, bell flowers and penstemon sprawling over one another, weighed down for now by the rain and making the most of every drop.
