Day 90: plus ça change

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

A year on to the day and this view is almost unchanged. The tulips might be a day or two behind, the roses a little better attended to (or possibly not, I still need to attack ‘Lochinvar’ there on the left, both too rigid and too spiky to do much creative training with) and, though it’s fading into the background a little, the pheasant berry (Leycesteria formosa) has been given a darn good seeing to. But the philadelphus (top left) remains in dire need of the attention I have promised to give it, just as soon as it finishes flowering this year. Honestly, we’ll need a ladder to get up to the blossom if I don’t do something about it soon. Photographs are so useful in showing us how far we’ve come in the garden, but sometimes they just illustrate what’s stayed the same – and that’s okay, too. Though I’ll be cross with myself if I’ve yet to sort out that bramble next to the cephalaria.
