Day 91: purple gromwell

Daily details from the garden to bring you inspiration throughout the year

I left it too late to get to the nursery yesterday and, having a planty itch that needed scratching, threw my principles to the wind and headed to the DIY shed, in the full knowledge that such a visit will require monetary penance to be done at a number of independent growers in the very near future. Such expeditions are usually – and probably justifiably – a recipe for disappointment, but occasionally something characterful can be found randomly lurking among the generically labelled plants, and this time around I managed to nab two pots of Lithodora diffusa ‘Heavenly Blue’, a favourite little evergreen ground cover related to the forget-me-not. Karmically, this discovery has left me more than a little confused, though horticulturally, quite smug.
